AI - What AI can do for you

Group Description :

Update: Hi, thanks for your interest in AI. We now have a room - Asda Pilsworth (I appreciate this is convenient for everyone, so have included a link to a 4 week online course in November below). The room only holds 14 people and I have 30 people interested so I need to get the number down to 14 so you won't be sat 2 to a chair!

To cover the costs the course will have a charge of £12 (as we do not want to exclude anyone who cannot afford it, then please let Gillian know if you are in genuine hardship).

I'll be in touch with everyone to check/confirm their place on next week's course so we have 14 people in total.

Regards Gillian

This "AI - What AI can do for you" group is for anyone in Bury u3a who wants to learn about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and what it can do for them, including how to use it. This is a four-week introductory course for those new/newish to using AI and will show you how you can use it in your everyday life.

What we cover on the 4 week course

  • What AI is and what it can actually do
  • Different AI tools and how they can help with everyday tasks
  • Ideas for using AI for hobbies, travel, writing, research, creativity and more
  • Sharing experiences, tips and useful discoveries
  • Understanding some of the limitations, challenges and risks of AI
  • Keeping up with this rapidly developing technology

You don't need to be technically minded – curiosity is all you need!

If Asda Pilsworth and Tuesdays at 10am is not convenient for you, there is an alternative online (Zoom) 4 week course starting in November. Monday's 2pm-4pm. You can book via the link.

For those who have completed this course or those know who already how to use it, there is an AI Explorers group. This group starts at the end of Sept 2026 and here will will work on our own projects, share what we are doing, discuss and share developments in AI, news, tools, ethical issues, etc.

Our Group Leader, Gillian Fielding, is an AI advocate and technology enthusiast. She spent 40 years working in further and higher education, embracing the benefits of successive developments in computing while also recognising and considering their drawbacks and risks.

If you are unsure about joining or have questions, then just contact Gillian.

You are very welcome to join us.
